Lyrics:
Chorus
Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high,
All those things that don't change come what may,
But our good times are all gone
And I'm bound for moving on.
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way
Think I'll go out to Alberta:
Weather's good there in the fall.
I got some friends that I can go to working for.
Still I wish you'd change your mind
If I asked you one more time,
But we've been through that a hundred times or more.
Chorus
If I get there before the snow flies
And if things are goin' good,
You could meet me if I sent you down the fare
But by then it would be winter,
Nothin' much for you to do
And those winds sure can blow cold way out there.
Chorus
"Four Strong Winds" is a song written by Ian Tyson in the early 1960s and recorded by his
Canadian folk duo Ian and Sylvia.
This is the first song I learned from Ian and Sylvia.
The melody feels like it starts out in G major but by the end it feels like D mixolydian.
It has also been recorded by Hank Snow, The Seekers, Judy Collins, the Chad Mitchell Trio,
Bob Dylan, Marianne Faithfull, The Searchers, John Denver, The Kingston Trio,
Joan Baez, Glenn Yarborough, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Cash, The Brothers Four,
Sarah McLachlan, Neil Young and others.
