"Oyster Girl" is an English jig and morris dance tune in G Major and 6/8 time.<br> It was known in Northumberland, England. The parts are played AABB (Hall & Stafford,<br> Sweet) or AABBC (Kennedy, Raven, Wade).<br> The tune used for a single step dance in the North-West England morris dance tradition.<br> The melody was entered into several English musicians' copybooks, including those of<br> James Blackshaw (North Shropshire, 1837), James Winder (Lancashire, 1835-41) and<br> R. Hughes (Whitchurch, Shropshire, 1823).<br> This is different from the Anerican tune of the same name.<br> It was printed in Hall & Stafford's Charlton Memorial Tune Book (1956),<br> Kennedy's Fiddlers Tune Book, vol. 1 (1951),<br> Manson's Hamilton's Universal Tune Book, vol. 2 (1846),<br> Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984),<br> Sweet's Fifer's Delight (1965/1981) and<br> Wade's Mally's North West Morris Book (1988).<br> It was recorded by Arthur Marshall (et. al.) on Ranting and Reeling: Dance Music of the<br> north of England (1998).<br>
