"The First of April" is an English Country Dance tune in 6/8 time and A Major.<br> The parts are played AABB.<br> The melody appears to have been first published by the firm of Longman, Lukey & Broderip<br> in Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (1776).<br> It also appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite<br> Country Dances, vol. 4 (1780).<br> It was also printed in Barnes' English Country Dance Tunes (1986),<br> S. Johnson's Twenty-Eight Country Dances as Done at the New Boston Fair, vol. 8 (1988)<br> and Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984).<br>
