Files to Document Each Tune/Song


Files used to store information (not visible on the website):
  • a text file of ABC notation for both the tune and accompaniment (if a guitar player would use a capo); this also includes parameters like style, type, composer (if known), banjo tuning (if appropriate) and capo setting (if appropriate).
  • a text file of lyrics (for a song)
  • a text file of notes of historical or other interest (or comments if I have any)
  • TablEdit files:
    • a TablEdit file of the mandolin tablature
    • a TablEdit file of the violin tablature for tunes. Songs may have a violin tablature if it seems appropriate
    • TablEdit files of guitar, banjo or dulcimer tablature if appropriate
  • a Word document containing the standard notation melody, the lyrics (for songs) and any notes/comments.
Files visible/accessible on the website:
  • the main HTML page for the tune/song
  • an HTML version of the text file of notes (may contain links to other tunes or songs in the collection)
  • image files:
    • an image of the tune in standard notation
    • an image of the accompaniment (if necessary)
    • an image of the mandolin tablature
    • an image of the violin tablature
    • an image of the banjo tablature (if necessary)
    • an image of the guitar tablature (if necessary)
    • an image of the dulcimer tablature (if necessary)
    • an image of the ABC text file
  • audio files:
    • a midi sound file set to violin sound for standard notation, mandolin, violin and dulcimer tablatures
    • a midi sound file set to banjo sound for banjo tablature (if available)
    • a midi sound file set to guitar sound for guitar tablature (if available)
    • an mp3 audio file (if I get around to recording it)
    • an mp3 audio file of a source performer or song writer (if I can find one)
  • PDF files (these are best for printing)
    • the tune in standard notation
    • the accompaniment (if necessary)
    • the mandolin tablature
    • the violin tablature
    • the banjo tablature (if available)
    • the guitar tablature (if available)
    • the dulcimer tablature (if available)
    • a song/tune sheet containing the standard notation melody, the lyrics (for songs) and any notes/comments. (If there is an accompaniment file, that is the image that is used).
