This is a cowboy-styled country/western song written in 1948 by American songwriter Stan Jones. The most successful recording of it was by Vaughn Monroe. Others who have recorded it are: Bing Crosby, Frankie Laine, Burl Ives, Eddy Arnold, Peggy Lee, Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash. I remember hearing the Vaughn Monroe record on the radio when I was very young. This is one of my personal favorite.
