This is a musical version of the old traditional story of "the hitch hiking ghost" which is known all over the country. The Blair County, PA version of the story is usually called "Minnie, the belle of the Buckhorn" which takes place on Route 36 as it comes down into Altoona from the village of Buckhorn at the top of the mountain. "Bringing Mary Home" was written by Chaw Mank, Joe Kingston and John Duffey. It was recorded by The Country Gentlemen in 1965 on their album of the same name. I think I learned this from Dan Estersohn at Penn State about that time.
