"Bird on the Wire" is one of Leonard Cohen's signature songs. It was recorded by him September 26, 1968 in Nashville and included on his 1969 album Songs from a Room. Besides Leonard Cohen, it has been recorded by Joe Cocker, Jackie DeShannon, Dave Van Ronk, Tim Hardin, Rita Coolidge, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Judy Collins and Madeleine Peyroux.
