"Groundhog" is a wide spread song known throughout the south and midwest. It was documented in Vance Randolph's Ozark Folksongs. It was recorded by The Dillards, Dan Gellert, Lorraine Lee Hammond, Sam Hinton, Tommy Jarrell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, George and Gerry Armstrong and Doc Watson among others. I learned this first from The Burl Ives Songbook and later from Lomax's Folk Songs of North America.
