Also known as "Parson and Dorothy".<br> Chappell (1859) quotes Percy who states this air was a popular<br> tune in the time of Elizabeth I, "being usually printed with her<br> picture before it". The melody was printed by Playford in<br> The English Dancing Master beginning with the 2nd edition (1652) as<br> "Parson and Dorothy". Beginning with the 4th edition it was retitled<br> "The Shepherd's Daughter" through the 8th edition (1690) after which<br> it was dropped. <br> It was also printed in Chappell's Popular Music of the Olden<br> Time (1859) and Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).<br>
