Also known as "Parson and Dorothy".
Chappell (1859) quotes Percy who states this air was a popular
tune in the time of Elizabeth I, "being usually printed with her
picture before it". The melody was printed by Playford in
The English Dancing Master beginning with the 2nd edition (1652) as
"Parson and Dorothy". Beginning with the 4th edition it was retitled
"The Shepherd's Daughter" through the 8th edition (1690) after which
it was dropped.
It was also printed in Chappell's Popular Music of the Olden
Time (1859) and Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).
