"The Queen's Jig" is a Scottish and English country dance tune in 6/4 or 6/8 time in D Major. The parts are played AABB.
The tune dates to 1701 when it was published in Playford’s Dancing Master, 11th edition. It was retained in subsequent editions of the long-running series, through the 18th and final edition (then published by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing concerns). Later it appeared in Walsh’s Compleat County Dancing Master, vol. 1, of 1718.
It was printed in Barlow's Complete Country Dance Tunes from Playford's Dancing Master (1985), Barnes' English Country Dance Tunes (1986), Brody's Fiddler’s Fakebook (1983), Fleming Williams & Shaw's English Dance Airs; Popular Selection, Book 1 (1965), Lerwick's Kilted Fiddler (1985), Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984) and Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).
It was recorded by Dave Swarbrick on Lift the Lid and Listen (1979).
