"Oaken Leaves" is an English Country Dance tune in 6/8 time and F Major.<br> The parts are played: one part (Sharp) or AAB (Barnes).<br> The tune and country dance called "Oaken Leaves" was first published in<br> John Playford's Dancing Master, 4th edition (1670). It was retained in<br> subsequent editions through the eighth edition of 1690, after which<br> it disappears from the series.<br> Cecil Sharp substituted the Playford melody<br> "The Milkmaid's Bob"<br> for dance steps to "Oaken Leaves" <br> and occasionally the tunes and the dance steps are interchanged.<br> It was printed in Barlow's Complete Country Dances from Playford's<br> Dancing Master (1985),<br> Barnes' English Country Dance Tunes (1986) and<br> Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).<br>
