"Oaken Leaves" is an English Country Dance tune in 6/8 time and F Major.
The parts are played: one part (Sharp) or AAB (Barnes).
The tune and country dance called "Oaken Leaves" was first published in
John Playford's Dancing Master, 4th edition (1670). It was retained in
subsequent editions through the eighth edition of 1690, after which
it disappears from the series.
Cecil Sharp substituted the Playford melody
"The Milkmaid's Bob"
for dance steps to "Oaken Leaves"
and occasionally the tunes and the dance steps are interchanged.
It was printed in Barlow's Complete Country Dances from Playford's
Dancing Master (1985),
Barnes' English Country Dance Tunes (1986) and
Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).
