The country dance (a round or circle dance for six) was first published in<br> The English Dancing Master (1651). It was retained in subsequent editions<br> through the seventh edition of 1786. The melody is an adaptation of "Mon Desir",<br> a basse danse by Tielman Susato published exactly a century earlier in 1551. <br> It was also printed in Sharp's Country Dance Tunes, (1909).<br> It was recorded on Country Capers by The New York Renaissance Band.<br>
