"The Milkmaid's Bob", also known as "The Milke-Mayd's Bobb" is an English jig
in G Major. The parts are played AABB.
The melody and country dance steps appear in John Playford's first edition of
The English Dancing Master (1651) and was retained in the series through the
10th edition of 1698.
English collector Cecil Sharp substituted this tune for the Playford dance
"Oaken Leaves"
and occasionally the tunes and the dance steps are interchanged.
It was printed in Barlow'sThe Complete Country Dance Tunes from Playford's
Dancing Master (1985) and
Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984).
It was recorded by The York Waits on The Punk's Delight (1992).
