Also known as "The Merry Milkmaids in Green".<br> This air, which Chappell (1849) believes a country dance air<br> from c. 1600 or earlier, was published in The English Dancing Master.<br> Walker (History of Music in England, 1924) concurred with Chappel<br> that the mixolydian tune was "obviously earlier" than the latter<br> half of the 17th century. It was one of the relative handful of tunes<br> that was printed in every edition of the Dancing Master series, which<br> ran from 1651 to 1728 (in the last two editions the title was changed<br> to "The Merry Milkmaids in Green").<br> It was also printed in Chappell's Popular Music of the Olden Time,<br> vol. 1, (1859), Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk<br> Dance Airs (1951) and Sharp's Country Dance Tunes, (1909).<br> It was recorded on The English Country Dancing Master, vol 2 by<br> The Telemann Society, Country Capers by The New York Renaissance Band and<br> A Trip to Kilburn by The Baltimore Consort.<br>
