"The Glory of the North" is an English country dance tune in cut time and F Major.
The parts are played AABB.
It was printed in the third edition of Playford's English Dancing Master (1657) and in the A and B addenda to the third edition (1657 and 1665) titled separately as The Tunes of the French Dances and Other New Tunes for the Treble Violin. The air also appears in Musick's Recreation on the Lyra-Viol (1652), Musick's Delight on the Cithren (1666), Elizabeth Rogers' Virginal Book and Hawkins' Transcripts. It was printed in Chappell's Popular Music of the Olden Time, vol. 1 (1859), The Plain Brown Tune Book (1997) and Barlow's Complete Country Dances from Playford's Dancing Master (1985). |
