"The Fit's Come On Me Now" also known as "The Bishop of Chester's Jig", "The Fit is Come Ower Me Now" is an English country dance tune in 9/4 time in F Mixolydian. The parts are played AABB.
The air dates to 1686 where it appears in the 7th edition of Playford's Dancing Master. From the 9th edition it was called "The Bishop of Chester's Jig" in the Playford publications. However, perhaps an older version of the air appears in the Panmure MS #9454 Seventy Seven Dances, Songs and Scots Airs for Violin, c. 1675. Robin Williamson's opinion is that the Panmure version is "a quirky piece of unusual structure".
It was printed in Barlow's The Complete Country Dance Tunes from Playford's Dancing Master (1985), Barnes's English Country Dance Tunes (1986), Chappell's Popular Music of the Olden Times vol. 2 (1859) and Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909).
