"Childgrove" is also known as "Child Grove". The tune, still popular at country and contra-dances, dates to 1701 when it appeared in the 11th edition of Henry Playford's English Dancing Master. Another early printing was by Walsh in The Compleat Country Dancing Master (editions of 1718 and 1747). It was also printed in Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909) and Karpeles's 100 English Folk Dance Airs (1951). It was recorded by Fennig's All Stars on The Hammered Dulcimer (1973) and Hesperus on Early American Roots (1997)..
