"The Captain's Maggot" is an English Country Dance in cut time and F Major.<br> The parts are played AABB.<br> It appeared in Henry Playford's Second Part of the Dancing Master printed in London in 1698.<br> This was the 9th edition of the long-running Dancing Master series begun by Henry's father John<br> and continued after Henry by John Young. "The Captain's Maggot" was retained in subsequent<br> editions through the 18th and last, printed in 1728. It also appears in Walsh's Compleat Country<br> Dancing Master, editions of 1718 and 1731 and in John Johnson's Wright's Compleat Collection of<br> Celebrated country Dances, vol. 2 (London, 1748).<br> It was also printed in Barlow's The Complete Country Dances from Playford's Dancing Master (1985).<br>
