"Thomas Judge", in Gaelic "Pleraca Tomas Breiteam", also known as "Planxty Tom Judge",<br> "Thomaus a Moumpus", "Tom Judge" and "Carolan's Frolic" is an Irish planxty in 6/8 time and<br> D Minor (Neal, O'Sullivan), G Minor (Wright) or D Major (O'Neill). The parts are played<br> AAB (O'Neill), AABB (Neal) and ABC (O'Sullivan).<br> It was composed by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) for Thomas Judge of Grangebeg, County<br> Westmeath, High Sheriff of Leitrim and later of Westmeath. In 1707 he married Abigail,<br> daughter of Thomas Smyth of Drumcree, County Westmeath. Thomas Judge married a second<br> time, in 1741, after O'Carolan died, so his tune "Mrs. Judge" refers to Thomas's first wife.<br> It was printed in Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes (1984),<br> O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903),<br> O’Farrell's Pocket Companion, vol. IV (c. 1810),<br> O'Sullivan's Carolan: The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper (1958),<br> Petrie's Ancient Music of Ireland (1855) and<br> Daniel Wright's Aria di Camera (1727).<br> It was recorded by Brendan Mulvihill and Donna Long onThe Morning Dew (1993).<br>
