Loftus Jones was the son of Thomas and Susanna Jones, of Ardnaglass, County Sligo. O'Carolan's biographer O’Sullivan reasons that the tune must have been composed toward the end of O’Carolan’s career, as Loftus must have been a young man at the the time of the bard’s death.
It was printed in Ossian Publications' Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Collection (1984), Doyle's Plain Brown Tune Book (1997), Johnson's The Kitchen Musician No. 5: Mostly Irish Airs (1985 - revised 2000) and O'Sullivan's Carolan: The Life Times and Music of an Irish Harper (1958).
It was recorded by Abby Newton on Crossing to Scotland (1997), Kevin Burke on An Evening with Kevin Burke, Mick Moloney on Strings Attached, The Irish Tradition on The Corner House (1978) and others.
