"Lament for Sir Ulick Burke" (in Gaelic: "Marbhna Uillioc Búrca") is an Irish lament in A Dorian
composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738) on the occasion of the death of
Ulick Burke, 3rd Baronet of Glinsk, County Galway, in 1708. O'Carolan had previously composed
a planxty in honor of
Sir Ulick.
The oldest printed source is in the music manuscripts of Irish collector Edward Bunting. It is also printed in Complete Collection of Carolan's Irish Tunes (1984), O'Sullivan's Carolan: The Life, Times and Music of an Irish Harper (1958) and Ossian's The Complete Works of O'Carolan (1989). |
