"Red Apple Rag" is an American country rag in 2/4 time and G Major.
The parts are played AB (Christeson), AABB (Phillips) or AA'BB' (Devil's Box).
It is a widely-known and frequently played and recorded tune, popularized by
Tennessee fiddle legend Arthur Smith (1898-1971). The composition is often
credited to him.
It was printed in R.P. Christeson's Old Time Fiddlers Repertory, vol. 2 (1984),
Stephen F. Davis's Devil's Box vol. 26, No. 3, Fall 1992 and
Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 2 (1995).
It was recorded by Arthur Smith on Fiddling Arthur Smith and His Dixieliners (1978),
Art Stamper on The Lost Fiddler (c. 1982),
Kenny Baker & Howdy Forrester on Red Apple Rag (1983),
Cyril Stinnett on Tape from Forrest Ellifrits (c. 1965) and
