"Red Apple Rag" is an American country rag in 2/4 time and G Major.<br> The parts are played AB (Christeson), AABB (Phillips) or AA'BB' (Devil's Box).<br> It is a widely-known and frequently played and recorded tune, popularized by<br> Tennessee fiddle legend Arthur Smith (1898-1971). The composition is often<br> credited to him.<br> It was printed in R.P. Christeson's Old Time Fiddlers Repertory, vol. 2 (1984),<br> Stephen F. Davis's Devil's Box vol. 26, No. 3, Fall 1992 and<br> Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 2 (1995).<br> It was recorded by Arthur Smith on Fiddling Arthur Smith and His Dixieliners (1978),<br> Art Stamper on The Lost Fiddler (c. 1982),<br> Kenny Baker & Howdy Forrester on Red Apple Rag (1983),<br> Cyril Stinnett on Tape from Forrest Ellifrits (c. 1965) and<br> Ed Haley on Forked Deer (1997).<br>
