"Dulcimer" is an American hymn tune composed by Freeman Lewis (1780-1859) in 11.8.11.8 meter.
It appears in Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835 with lyrics based on a LDS scripture passage. It was also printed in The Baptist Hymnal (1902), The Methodist Hymnal (1905), and Walker's Southern Harmony (1835) usually with lyrics by Joseph Swain (1761-1796). The lyrics are often used with "Samanthra" and which is in this section although the stanzas of "Samanthra" are twice as long as those of "Dulcimer".
It was also printed in Jackson's Spiritual Folk-Songs of Early America (1937) where he notes the tune is similar to the one used for the "When that great ship went down" version of the "Titanic".
