"Babylon is Fallen" is a Shaker hymn and is attributed to W. E. Chute.
The Biblical reference for this title is Isaiah 21:9b - "And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground."The original six-stanza text was by Richard McNemar and first appeared in the Shaker hymnal Millennial Praises, Containing a Collection of Gospel Hymns, Adapted to the Day of Christ's Second Appearing (1813). It was printed in Jackson's Spiritual Folk Songs of Early America (1937) and White's The Sacred Harp (1844). It appears as #13968 in the Roud Folk Song Index.
