"Three Meet", also known as "The Pleasures of the Town" is an English jig in
6/8 time and D Major. The parts are played AABB.
The tune takes its title from the prominent country dance figure set to it.
"Three Meet" is the tune and dance collected by Peter Kennedy in northern
England and stipulates that "three face three, the gentleman with two partners",
with the last figure given as "'Threes cuddle up', Arms linked behind backs to
form basket. Swing with pivot step".
The Gloucestershire version of this country dance is called "The Swedish" or
"Three Meet".
This version of the tune is from Sharp.
It was printed in Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk Dance
Airs (1951),
Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909) and
Country Dance Tunes, vol. 2 (1911-1922).
