"The Staffordshire Hornpipe" is an English sword dance tune in 2/2 time and D Major.
It is the second figure of the sword dance from the Flamborough, England.
One of the earliest recordings of the tune was in 1909 when Cecil Sharp waxed it on a cylinder from the playing of John Locke from whom he also recorded "Blue Eyed Stranger". It was printed in Callaghan's Hardcore English (2007), Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk Dance Airs (1951), Kirkpatrick & Harris's Opus Pocus (1988) and Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984). |
