"The Queen's Delight" is an English morris dance tune in 6/8 time and G Major.
The parts are played AABBB (x6), AACC, AACC.
It was collected from the village of Bucknell, Oxfordshire, in England's Cotswolds. The tune accompanies a handkerchief dance. The third part of the tune breaks rhythm, in conjunction with the movements ('slows') of the dance. Tunes named "The Queen's Delight" appear in Playford's Dancing Master in the Supplement to the Third Edition and in the Thirteenth Edition. They are different from this tune and from each other. It was printed in Bacon's The Morris Ring (1974) and Mallinson's Mally’s Cotswold Morris Book (1988). It was recorded by Spiers & Boden on Tunes (2005) and Chris Bartram on The Traditional Morris Dance Music Album. |
