"No Man's Jig", also known as "Buttered Peas", "Reel of Stumpie" or
"Stumpie/Stumpey" is an English sword dance tune in 4/4 time and G Major.
It is related, at least structurally, to "Nobody's Jig" (also known as "My Lady Winwood's Maggot"). Like "Nobody's Jig", it is in a 2 or 4 count rhythm even though it is called a jig. Traditionally it has been the tune for the last figure in the sword dance from the area of Sleights, England. It was printed Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk Dance Airs (1951), Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984) and Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 2 (1765). |
