"The Maid of the Mill" is the name of a number of English morris dance tunes in 6/8 time and<br> G Major or A Major. The parts are played ABB ABB ABB ABB A.<br> The version collected in the village of Bampton, Oxfordshire is a variation of "The Mulberry<br> Garden" that was printed in Playford's Dancing Master and was titled "The Maid in the Mill"<br> from the 10th edition on.<br> This version is from the village of Bledington in Gloucestershire.<br> The dance is sometimes begun with the rhyme:<br> The maid of the mill, the maid of the mill,<br> She says she won't but we know she will.<br> It was printed in Bacon's The Morris Ring (1974) and<br> Mallinson's Mally's Cotswold Morris Book (1988).<br>
