"Gooseberry Blossoms", also known as "Cock Your Pistol Charlie" or<br> "Captain Murray's Reel" is a Morris Dance Tune (2/2 time) or<br> Irish reel (2/4 time) in A Dorian. The parts are played AAB.<br> A reel setting of the tune was entered into vol. 2 of the large<br> mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and<br> uilleann piper James Goodman. Goodman researchers Hugh and Lisa Shields<br> record that he obtained the tune from a manuscript provided to him by<br> Dublin bookseller John O'Daly. English collector Cecil Sharp adapted and<br> published a version of the tune (which he apparently adapted from<br> Petrie's collection) for use with his collected version of<br> "The Running Set" (Square Eight) from Kentucky.<br> It was printed in<br> Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk Dance Airs (1951),<br> Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984),<br> Sharp's Country Dance Tunes (1909) and<br> Stanford/Petrie's Complete Collection (1905).<br>
