Charles E. Redenberger

Charles E. Redenberger -- Sept. 19, 1927 - Nov. 7, 2013 He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles M. and Ameila A. (Auerbeck) Redenberger. He married Joan Weaver on June 5, 1951, in Warm Springs, Va. He was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School, and he attended Juniata College and received his master's from West Chester State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Army stateside from 1945-47. He retired in June 1986 after 30 years as a music teacher in the Altoona Area School District.
Charles was a member of the church choir at St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona, and a member of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra since 1942, as well as past concertmaster. He was known for his chamber music and was founder of the Altoona Youth String Orchestra from 1962-68. He also conducted the Mount Aloysius College Orchestra and was well known as a violinist and music teacher.

I studied violin with Mr. Redenberger from February 1956 until sometime in 1963 when I stupidly stopped lessons. He taught me not only violin technique but also the technical aspects of music which I have used in numerous ways, both with folk music and in composing and arranging more classical music for handbells.
